AI probability score
Sightengine's genai model supplies an overall score that we display from 0 to 100%.
Upload a photo and get an answer in seconds — free, no signup, and we show you exactly what gave it away.

Images are sent securely to Sightengine for analysis and are not stored by IsThisAPhoto.
Most “is this photo AI” checks hand you a number and leave you guessing. This checker shows the AI probability returned by Sightengine, a cautious verdict, and plain-English notes about the signals available. A middle-range score appears as Inconclusive rather than forcing a real-or-AI answer.
Sightengine's genai model examines patterns in image pixels, and generator-specific scores appear only when Sightengine supplies them. The result does not include a heatmap or C2PA provenance assessment. If you want the visual checklist first, read how to tell if an image is AI generated before you upload.

Generator-specific scores appear in the result only when Sightengine returns them; we do not guess a model name.
We explain what each available score means and why a middle-range score receives an Inconclusive verdict.
The model looks for visual patterns in image pixels rather than relying on file metadata.
Your browser previews the photo, then our server function sends it to Sightengine for AI-image analysis.
Drop or choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 4 MB. You can also paste an image from your clipboard. No account is required.
The selected file appears in your browser for review. When you check it, the image goes through our server function to Sightengine. IsThisAPhoto does not save it to a file or database.
You receive an AI probability, a confidence label, and available detection signals. A score in the uncertain range receives an Inconclusive verdict because the evidence is not strong enough for a likely real-or-AI answer.
This checker uses Sightengine's genai model for the overall AI probability. Sightengine's AI image detection documentation lists DALL-E, Firefly, Flux, GPT image generation, Grok Imagine, Higgsfield, Ideogram, Imagen, Kling, Midjourney, Nano Banana, Qwen, Recraft, Reve, Seedream, Stable Diffusion, StyleGAN, Z-image, and Wan. Generator-specific scores appear when Sightengine returns them. We have not independently measured accuracy by generator and cannot promise to name the exact tool used. Our ChatGPT image detector page explains what that limit means model by model.
People often want a second opinion before trusting or sharing an image. A detector score is one clue; use source checks and other evidence before making a consequential decision.
Profiles are full of AI-generated portraits now. Run a check before you invest a week in the conversation; a score is a signal about the image, not a verification of who someone is.
When a picture is moving fast through group chats, a second opinion helps you decide whether to forward it or hold back. Pair it with sourcing; a score is not proof of where an image came from.
Sellers generate product shots, fake damage photos, and invented "proof". Check the image, then check seller history and payment protections — a score is one clue, not proof of an item's condition.
If someone sends a photo as proof of who they are or what they own, run it before you act. A score is one clue; use dedicated verification for identity decisions.
This checker does not ask you to sign up or pay for a check. It currently allows 10 checks per IP address per UTC calendar day. The server enforces the limit, so clearing your browser data does not reset it. When the limit is reached, the page gives a clear message and a retry option for after the daily reset.
There is no video or audio checking. Only JPG, PNG, and WebP image files up to 4 MB are accepted.

A general chatbot can describe what it sees, but it was not trained to spot generator fingerprints, so it will often guess. Detection models compare the image against patterns left by known image generators, and good ones show you the evidence behind the answer. Use both if you like — just do not treat a chatbot's opinion as a verdict.
Google can find pages about a photo through reverse image search, and it can read provenance signals when a file carries them. It does not tell you whether a photo was AI-generated. That is what a detector is for.
You submit the image to a detection model. This checker shows the AI probability returned by Sightengine and explains the signals it actually provides. Sightengine's genai result does not include a heatmap.
Yes. This checker requires no signup or payment and currently allows 10 checks per IP address per UTC day. It shows Sightengine's AI probability with a plain-English explanation; uncertain scores receive an inconclusive verdict.

The image is sent to our server function and then to Sightengine solely for analysis. IsThisAPhoto keeps it in memory for the request, does not save the image or result to a file or database, and releases the in-memory data when the request finishes. Sightengine handles it under its privacy policy and service agreement; its public policy does not state a fixed deletion time.
